FOOD REVIEW: It’s all food, fun and games at the Hive Board Game Café

Whether it’s fun time with friends or a fab family time, there’s not a dull moment at the Hive Board Game Café that also serves some of the yummiest and most indulgent foods

If the summers are keeping you indoors and bored on weekends, then we have just the place you should head to and replace the ‘Bored’ with ‘Board Games’ instead. The Hive Board Game Café that houses more than 500 games and books is that one place where you get to indulge not only your taste buds, but also score high on the fun-o-meter.

Location: Conveniently located in The Onyx Tower 1, on Sheikh Zayed Road, The Greens

Book ahead: Large, spacious, buzzing, the café is always bustling with groups of friends, families and even the solo kinds who prefer to read in a relaxed ambience. Do make sure you call ahead and book your tables well in advance. Although the place is quite large, it is also quite a favourite with patrons who love to indulge in their playful sides, so getting a reservation might be a challenge on a holiday.

Food: This café is truly a weekend haven for fast food-lovers. Whipping up some of the best shakes, smoothies and coffees, we tried the Lotus blast, Nutella blast, Oreo Cookie blast and our vote goes to the Lotus Blast. A must-try.

Among foods the Caesar’s Salad we ordered, was amongst the best we’ve had. We also tried their Chicken popcorn, Nachos and Sweet Potato Fries and came away impressed. Pizzas (both the Vegetable Garden Pizza and the Grilled Chicken Pizza) and Pasta were next on our order and they score pretty high on those too.

Service: The shakes took a long time to reach the tables, but they were worth the wait. Surprisingly, the food was rolled out faster.

Games & Books: The Game-master actually introduced us to some new games and they were fun. Card games to board games, the variety was interesting and there seemed to be something for everyone. Jenga to Scrabble to Cards Against Humanity… We had a whale of a time! The walls are lined up with book shelves and for book-lovers, there’s a selection of a few 100s to choose from. Heaven, we tell you!

Ambience: The café scores high on the ambience. We love the art on the walls and the brick feel lends to a very casual and relaxed atmos. On the downside, it does tend to get noisy, but given it’s a fun place, it’s not surprising.

We Recommend: Definitely! Head here for after hours or better still on a weekend to truly enjoy the space with your friends or family and indulge in some fun games and foods. The food is value for money and the fun even more.
