Cannes Film Festival pushed ahead from May to July

The prestigious French Riviera festival that was cancelled in 2020 has this year (2021) been postponed from May to July

The global Coronavirus pandemic brought about an interruption in the calendars of most international film events including the celebrated Cannes Film Festival that stood cancelled last year (2020).

And this year while the Cannes organisers are keen on hosting the event, they have announced that the event has been postponed from the usual May dates to July.  The event will now tentatively take place on July 16-17, 2021.

It is being reported that the organisers have pushed ahead the dates to ensure a physical attendance of industry members instead of opting to host a virtual event as the others have been doing off late. The upcoming Berlin Film Festival in March in Germany too has been planned as a virtual event.
