After her release of Padmavaat, Deepika Padukone has taken a sabbatical this year. The actress recently announced her next film which she will co-produce. Deepika is going to star in Meghna Gulzar’s next movie. It is based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. There were rumours of Rajkummar Rao starring opposite Deepika Padukone, but Vikrant Massey has been confirmed to cast in the film. Vikrant will play the role of Laxmi’s partner Alok Dixit. According to a Mumbai Mirror report, the film is titled Chhapaak – meaning the sound of splash.
Meghna Gulzar said to the daily, “The cast is slowly coming together. Vikrant is somebody I’ve wanted to work with since Raazi, after seeing him in A Death in the Gunj. In the film, he plays a North Indian boy who used to be a professional before he decided to become an actor, then, started a campaign against acid violence which is how he came to meet Laxmi in real life. I speak for both Deepika and myself when I say that we are both really excited to have Vikrant play this part.”
It has been revealed by Meghna Gulzar, that the film will be shot in Mumbai and Delhi and prosthetics tests are underway. Let’s talk about the film…Meghna said, during the research for her film the one actress who came into her mind was Deepika for playing the lead role.
At the end, Deepika Padukone accepted to do the film. “It was that organic because it’s such a moving story. And the decision to co-produce the film with her also happened organically because I wanted to remain close to it through the entire process,” Meghna Gulzar said.
