These are unprecedented times with the whole world going through something which seems like an episode out of black mirror! It has forced people to change their lifestyles, their jobs, their homes, and all their plans! We all are being responsible and playing our part to navigate through this period! However artists have it as bad as anyone else, but UAE’s comedians are coming out with a show which will help us laugh, and find the humor in all of this madness, along-with providing some much needed entertainment for the people of Dubai!
“VIU Comedy Box Office – Bring the Funny”, is a show brought to you by VIU Comedy Box Office and Tall Tales Production, bringing a whole lot of comedy and fun into one night. Featuring some of the best comedians from the region, the show is a mix of stand-up comedy specials (ala Netflix originals), and improvisational comedy (ala Whose line is it anyways). The show promises to be a laugh riot with no less than 4 nationalities on the cast. This includes Pakistani, Indian, Sri-Lankan, and Bahraini artists. The show will be in English and Hindi mix.
The production is providing a platform for all local comedians in the UAE to showcase their talents and will be recorded to be put on the VIU application (OTT) as well. It also will aim to provide support to the artistic scene which globally due to the pandemic is facing a very tough time. The show promises to entertain and enthrall audiences with very relevant material on current affairs, romance, relationships, cricket, politics, shawarma, karma, Karama, and a whole lot more! The first night of the series will be on the 30th of September 2020 at The Junction in Al-Serkal Avenue at 8 pm. Tickets are priced at a reduced rate of 50 AED only (what! Really! This will be headlined by two of Dubai’s leading stand up comedians Salman Z. Qureshi and Rushdie Rafeek performing their fresh stand up material. It will be followed by Racy Desis (Comedy Adda fame) doing improvisational comedy in which Salman and Rushdie will be joined by Ahmed Abdulla and Alina Islam as well. The series is conceptualized by Faizan and Asad Raza Khan and co-produced and directed by them as well!
“The key to lift the local arts and comedy scene, is to have a mix of multi-cultural talent”, says Asad Raza Khan (Producer/Concept Creator), “This is what makes this country unique, and we are trying to bring that to audience’s attention. We are going through a tough time all together and we would like to Laugh at our problems and provide some entertainment to the public, as well as support the local scene”. Faizan (Director/Concept Creator) says comedy brings people together. “All of them bring different flavors, different experiences, different dimensions to the show. We tried to ensure that you see the unique color that each bring and are entertained in the process in a safe and secure environment. Do something different and let us entertain you”. Salman Qureshi (Artist), a star in the local comedy circuit, would like the arts to re-boot again “It has been a quiet time but now it is time to make some noise! We have been stuck in-doors and all we did was eat, sleep, get fat, think about working out and write a whole lot of material! We would now love to share it with the people of UAE to make them laugh as the content is going to be the most relevant to them!
