The ghouls, ghosts, and beasts on-screen that often haunt our dreams owe a lot of our screams to their truly terrifying appearances. This Halloween, let’s take a look at the best and most frightening makeup transformations that have spooked our screens!
Doug Bradley in Hellraiser (1987):
It took a hellish 6 hours to transform Doug Bradley into a sadist Cenobite in the movie, Hellraiser! With his realistic makeup and phenomenal acting, he had us wishing we never met a Cenobite.
Daniel Radcliffe in Horns (2013):
While Radcliffe played the good-hearted and misunderstood monster, Ig Perrish, he looked like a terrifying beast nonetheless. Despite its realistic look, the makeup only took two hours to transform the charming actor into a horned beast.
Robert Englund in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984):
Freddy Krueger’s character was no mask, but pure flesh, bones, and a lot of makeup! Robert Englund’s horrifying transformation that gave us nightmares took 3 hours to complete.
Bonnie Aarons in The Nun (2018):
Aaron’s makeup and brilliant acting were so convincing not only on camera but also off-camera that it made her costar Vera Farmiga uncomfortable each time they were on set together!
Bill Skarsgård in It (2017):
It took a mere two hours to transform the attractive star into the terrifying dancing clown, Pennywise, we all know and fear today.
Daveigh Chase in The Ring (2002):
The actress who was only 12 at the time of the movie portrayed her character, Samara, beautifully. She’d be in the makeup room at 4 am which resulted in her costars never knowing what she truly looked like, until much later!
Doug Jones in Pan’s Labyrinth (2006):
Playing the part of Pale Man and The Faun, Doug Jones would spend 5 hours for each character in the makeup chair! With his makeup and phenomenal acting, Jones truly brought Guillermo Del Toro’s characters to life.
