Irrfan’s Return to the Big Screen

India’s biggest import to western cinema – Irrfan Khan is all set to appear on the silver screen, once again, with the release of Angrezi Medium. The film is a follow up on 2017’s ‘Hindi Medium’ – the comedy drama about parents who go to their wits’ end to ensure their daughter’s admission in the right school. The plot shall continue as with the previous installment, although the story will pick up a decade after the events of the prequel. Hence, the story shall find a new lead in a grown up Pia – Irrfan’s daughter in the prequel.

Directed by Homi Adjania (Cocktail) and produced by Dinesh Vijan (Lukka Chuppi) the movie will star Irrfan Khan as the male lead alongside Kareena Kapoor, who replaces the previous lead Saba Qamar, and will be seen playing a police officer in the upcoming film, according to sources.

“Having him back on the set was a surreal feeling, he’s undoubtedly one of the best actors in the country. When he gave the first shot, everyone around got emotional. For me, it was one of those life-defining moments working with him again after Hindi Medium. Having him and Homi (director) together was something all three of us have always wanted.” Said producer Dinesh Vijan, in an official statement when asked about Irrfan’s return to the filming sets.

Hindi Medium, the first installment of the upcoming film, did tremendous rounds at the box-office and was a super-hit with lifetime collections of Rs. 69.59 crores. Furthermore, the film received critical acclaim from numerous sources and was regarded the best film of 2017 at the 63rd Filmfare Awards;  with Irrfan Khan receiving the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performances in the film.
