Let the Eyes Do the Talking

It is said that the soul speaks through the eyes. Eyes are a crucial part of your looks, and any change made to them can dramatically alter the way you look. Daywear subtle make-up or smoky make-up for a more dramatic look, there’s always something you can find to suit your needs. Over the years, countless products have been created just for the eyes, but one remains a constant- the eyeliner.

The eyeliner first emerged thousands of years ago in Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt. It has been known that men and women of high status wore eyeliner to define their eyes and protect it from the desert heat. The eyeliner eventually went out of fashion with the fall of the Egyptian empire and made its way back into Europe in the 1920s.

In today’s day and age, not only are there multiple kinds of eyeliners available, but also numerous ways of applying them. Let us take a look at the kind of eyeliners available in the market and how you could put them to their best use.

  1. Liquid Eyeliner:
The liquid eyeliner is often considered the most difficult to apply, although make-up enthusiasts will tell you otherwise. Applying this requires attention and a LOT of practice. One wrong move and both sides of your face will look like they belong to two different people.

The style that this eyeliner is most popularly used for is the Winged look. Made famous by actresses like Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Marilyn Monroe through the 1950s, the desire for this look has not lost its appeal.

  1. Pencil Eyeliner
Pencil eyeliner is largely popular among beginners due to its ease of application. Chances of getting both eyes right are higher with this one. However, pencil eyeliner is also used by experts to get a different look, usually something matte-like or less lustrous than the liquid eyeliner. With this eyeliner, you can achieve the same styles that you can, with a liquid eyeliner or a thicker kohl-like effect.

  1. Gel Eyeliner
Gel eyeliner has a creamy and thick consistency. It allows greater control, but there’s also more room for error. There is usually more to carry around with a gel eyeliner that requires a little brush for application. Gel eyeliners give an appearance that lies somewhere between a liquid and a pencil eyeliner.

  1. Eyeshadow as Eyeliner
Eyeshadow is popularly being used as eyeliner in the make-up industry. Deepika Padukone to Kendall Jenner have donned this look several times in the past. The eyeshadow ensures a much more subdued look as opposed to the others. It also offers a larger palette to those wishing to try out colours.
