Screen travels!

 

Trekking, long drives, hitting the road with a backpack, or casually meeting friends over a cup of coffee has become a dream since the lockdown. But while we sit in our homes with a suppressed sense of wanderlust, let’s watch some films featuring travel and relive some of our happy travel memories through them.

Here’s a list of travel movies from Bollywood that you can watch:

Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara (2011)

Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara was a movie that made us all want to make a trip to Spain. The reunion of three friends Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, and Farhan Akhtar is a glamorous version of the Goa trip we all have been planning since school. The deep-sea diving and skydiving elements add a sense of adventure to the film.

 

Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)

Zoya Akhtar’s movies are all about beautiful landscapes, but with Dil Dhadakne Do, she takes us to the sea. Dil Dhadakne Do is a story that unfolds on a family trip on a cruise. The film starring A-listers from Bollywood – Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Rahul Bose – will make you want to take a cruise yourself.

 

Piku (2015)

Among other travel films, Piku is a breath of fresh air. Shoojit Sircar’s Piku follows a father and daughter’s journey back to their ancestral home. Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone as father and daughter with Irrfan Khan who chauffeurs them from Delhi to Kolkata – portray the roles beautifully and stir deep emotions within the viewers. 

 

Highway (2014)

Imtiaz Ali’s Highway is a unique kind of travel film. Alia Bhatt traverses beautiful landscapes when she is abducted by Randeep Hooda. Ali uses a string of beautiful locales as his setting. The film was shot in Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

Dil Chahta hai is the ultimate friends-on-a-trip movie. It stars Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna in lead roles as well as Dimple Kapadia, Sonali Kulkarni, and Preity Zinda in prominent roles. The film was a hit and tremendously improved Goa tourism post the 9/11 gloom.

 

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is the story of coming out of the cocoon. A sheltered Naina (Deepika Padukone) spontaneously decides to go on a trek leaving her boring life behind. What unfolds is life-changing! Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani features Ranbir Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kalki Koechlin, and Deepika Padukone rediscovering friendship on a trek.

 

Queen (2013)

If a solo trip is your thing, then Queen is the film for you. Abandoned by her to-be-husband (Rajkummar Rao), a heartbroken bride (Kangana Ranaut) decides to go on her honeymoon alone. She discovers a sense of freedom and independence like never before and realises that alone is enough. 

 

Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. (2007)
Bollywood’s fascination with Goa is boundless. Reema Kagti’s Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. is about six newly married couples who discover hidden facts about each other on a four day trip to Goa. The film boasts an excellent star cast of Boman Irani, Kay Kay Menon, Shabana Azmi, Abhay Deol, Raima Sen, Dia Mirza, Minissha Lamba, Ranveer Shorey, Ameesha Patel, Sandhya Mridul, Arjun Rampal, Vikram Chatwal, Shahana Goswami to name a few. 

 

Anjaana Anjaani (2007)
Two heartbroken strangers – Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Ranbir Kapoor – on the verge of suicide, decide to live till New Year’s Day. As they travel through Las Vegas, they find a new meaning of existence and decide to life another shot. 

 

Qarib Qarib Singlle (2017)
Qarib Qarib Single is the love story of two middle aged individuals. Irrfan Khan, an unsuccessful yet happy go lucky poet and Parvathy Thiruvothu, a widow working in an insurance firm – travel to the past to find their present. They travel to Dehradun, Jaipur and Gangtok in search of Yogi’s (Irrfan Khan) ex-girlfriends, only to find love in each other.
