Simply South, an over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform with exclusively South Indian content, was rolled out in February 2019. The first-of-its-kind, this Dubai-based video streaming company, owned by Home Screen Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, aims to tap into the Indian diaspora across the world, in markets like Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, Sri Lanka, US, and Canada, among others.
Simply South boasts of a colossal library, with over 1000+ Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu movies, clips and songs to choose from and another 500+ movies in the pipeline. Users can enjoy a seven-day free trial and opt to subscribe for as low as 7.99 USD per month. There is also the option of TVOD, wherein select movies can be rented and viewed for a period of 48hrs from purchase.
The platform, available across the world except India, was launched with the release of the Tamil film Viswasam and has since acquired customers across 25+ countries. As of February 2020, the platform boasts of not just the biggest blockbusters, such as Kaithi, Bigil, and Pattas, but also rare-to-find classics such as Parasakthi, Alaipayuthey, and Jeans, among others.
Speaking on the intent behind it, Anish Wadhwa, founder of Simply South said “Today, if you want to watch a South Indian film online, the options are few and far between. Further, there is no platform dedicated to providing only South Indian content. Simply South is thus our attempt to fill this void and fight piracy.”
To ensure that users enjoy a premium theatre-like experience at home, Simply South is equipped with 1080p HD & 5.1 audio. The platform has also recently rolled out the much requested ‘Offline Download’ feature, so users can download their favourite films and enjoy offline playback on the go.
