1. DRINK WATER!
We cannot emphasise this enough. It’s of utmost importance to stay hydrated if you want to prevent your lips from getting dehydrated. Most of the beauty comes from within, so if you’re wondering why your chapstick isn’t working too well, it’s probably because you aren’t drinking enough water.

2. Lip Scrub
Exfoliation is key! A lip scrub will help you get rid of the dead skin on the lips and have softer, smoother lips as a result. Here are some ways to do so:
Mix clarified butter and sugar to make a scrub and gently rub it across your lips. The butter helps in moisturising the skin while the sugar cleans off dead skin.

Put some sugar on half a slice of lemon and rub it on your lips. The Vitamin C in lemon will help nourish the lips well.

One of the easiest things to do is to exfoliate your lips with a wet toothbrush every morning. It’s simple and effective!

3. Moisturise
Moisturising the lips is as important as moisturising the rest of your skin. It provides the nourishment necessary to keep it looking healthy and fresh. Petroleum jelly, coconut oil, castor oil, almond oil, and shea butter are the best moisturisers for the lips.

4. Prepare the lips before applying lipstick
Although lipsticks adorn the lips and make them look beautiful, they may dry them out, especially the matte ones. To prevent damage to the lips without compromising on the lipstick, moisturise and prepare your lips before application. You can also add a layer of primer to the lips to create a protective barrier between the lips and lipstick.

5. Sun Protection Factor (SPF)
Lips must be protected from the sun. Direct exposure to the sun can cause damage and chap up your lips. To protect your lips, look for a lip balm or chapstick which provides sun protection. A chapstick or lip balm with SPF 15 or above is perfect for the purpose.

Well now that you know how to take care of your lips, go ahead, follow these tips and pout away!
