Cate Blanchett is hardly new to accepting some of the highest honours in the world of cinema, her newest being Best Film Actress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. In over three decades, she’s broken a number of records, delivered multiple hit films, and been an audience-favourite throughout. On the heels of her recent win for Tár, here’s looking at some of her most stunning works:
The Aviator (2004)
The simplest way to underscore the brilliance of Blanchett’s performance here is to say the actress became her subject, Audrey Hepburn. And get this: She won an Academy Award for her portrayal of another Academy Awards actress. It’s safe to say that we’re impressed. The film also stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Beckinsale.
Elizabeth (1998) and Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007)

It was this Shekar Kapur film that catapulted her to global stardom, and earned Blanchett her maiden Oscar nod. She portrayed the insane highs and lows in the life of Elizabeth I of England. She won multiple awards for this one, and it’s of little surprise that she reprised her roll in the sequel.
The Talented Mr Ripley (1999)

You’d think that with Matt Damon and Jude Law as co-stars, the female lead would struggle for drawing viewer’s attention. But not Ms Blanchett. Effortlessly, she leads us to believe that she’s the stereotypical young and bubbly rich American. Loosely, this thriller can be described as, it was all fun and games until the murders started.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Would you believe us if we told you it’s the same person playing Queen Elizabeth and a Marvel Cinematic Universe’s villain? She plays foil to our main man Thor, armed with elaborate and varied head-dresses.
A few of Blanchett’s other notable films are Mrs America, I’m Not there, Notes on a Scandal, and an unexpected Coffee and Cigarettes by Jim Jarmusch.
