Rajkummar Rao’s critically-acclaimed film Omerta is all set to release on Zee5 Global today (July 25). The Hansal Mehta film is based on the life of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who was sentenced to death for abducting and murdering Wall Street Journal reporter, Daniel Pearl.
The film previously had a theatrical release on May 4, 2018. The biographical dark suspense thriller won numerous awards and received positive reviews from critics. Omerta has been screened at many international film festivals, and was also the closing night film in 2018 New York Indian Film Festival.
Rajkummar said Omar was one of the most challenging characters he has ever played on screen. Talking about his role he said, “I could never have imagined that playing this part would mentally take me to such dark places. It’s a journey of one of the deadliest terrorists of our times and Hansal sir pushed me out of my boundaries to explore.”
Director Hansal Mehta who is looking forward to the digital premiere of the film said, “It is a fast -paced thriller that could leave you angry, numb and/or asking for more. It is an unusual thriller and an unusual film in Rajkummar and my filmography. The film is a gritty thriller at one level but a disturbing document of our times at another. It is quiet but carries a disturbing undertone of remorseless violence.”
