As the stars align over Dubai, a celestial spectacle is set to captivate sky watchers and astronomy enthusiasts alike. On January 25 and 26, 2025, the Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG) is hosting a magical planetary alignment viewing event in the Al Qudra Desert, offering a rare opportunity to witness six planets aligning in the night sky.

A Cosmic Ballet

This extraordinary event will showcase Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Venus, and Saturn as they appear to line up in the sky, creating a mesmerizing planetary parade. While planetary alignments occur annually, the visibility of six planets simultaneously makes this occurrence particularly special.

Program Highlights

The evening’s schedule is packed with educational and observational activities:

– 6:00 PM: Event introduction

Throughout the night, attendees will have the opportunity to observe Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, and potentially Neptune and Uranus through telescopes.

Viewing Experience

Venus and Saturn will be prominently visible around 6:30 PM, with Mars and Jupiter becoming observable at 8:30 PM. While four planets will be visible to the naked eye, Uranus and Neptune will require the use of telescopes or binoculars.

Photography Opportunities

Astrophotography enthusiasts will be delighted to know that telescope operators will assist in capturing images of the planets through the telescopes.

– A 4×4 vehicle is recommended but not required

– Public restrooms are available at Al Qudra Last Exit, a 10-minute drive from the event location

Extended Viewing Period

For those unable to attend the event, the planetary alignment will be visible until early February, with gradually changing positions of the planets. However, the next alignment of this magnitude won’t occur until 2040, making this a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
