Mirzapur 2: Here’s all you want to know about the 7 key characters of the thrilling, action crime-drama

Who will rule Mirzapur? As the question looms large ahead of the upcoming Mirzapur 2, we present our pick of the top 7 contenders and give a lowdown on the actors playing them too

Mirzapur 2 is undoubtedly one of the most-awaited series on the OTT at present! The sequel of the hit crime-drama that is set to stream on Amazon Prime on October 23 takes off from the cliff-hanger thrilling climax of Season 1. The trailer that was recently released clearly proved that there’s not going to be any discounts when it comes to power-play, bloodshed, hard-hitting punch-lines, plot-twists, heavy dialogue-baazi and all the grit and gore! If anything, Mirzapur 2 only seems to have been mounted on an even larger scale with the on-goings getting murkier in this crime-town where Kaleen Bhaiya’s bullet-raj is the law. Played out with a rustic swag, the 10-part series seems to be overrun by emotions of revenge, lust, power, politics, hatred and the greed to rule.

Check out the trailer right here:

The mind-blowing trailer has already whetted the appetite of Mirzapur fans, who’d been looking forward to the Season 2 that had gotten delayed post the lockdown following the Coronavirus global pandemic! And while each and every character of the web-series has been etched into the minds and hearts of the show’s fans, here’s giving you a quick lowdown on the key 7 players (minus the spoilers of course) and the actors that we’ve been rooting for:

Pankaj Tripathi is Akhandanand Tripathi aka Kaleen Bhaiya

The Bahubali of Mirzapur, Kaleen Bhaiya is the don of this lawless town and it’s his way or the ‘die-way’. Ruling the system with an iron-hand, he keeps a cool head even while taking the most violent decisions. Keeping his enemies at bay, he aspires to get in to the respectable game of politics and hopes to keep his name in the clear for that.

The role seems to be child’s play for Pankaj Tripathi or it is just his brilliance as a performer that he makes playing Kaleen Bhaiya so effortless. In either case, his subtle and unpredictable nuances are always a delight to watch.

Divyendu Sharma is Phoolchand Tripathi aka Munna Bhaiya

Kaleen Bhaiya’s only son, Munna is the heir to the throne of Mirzapur, who just can’t wait to set his own rules as the next ruler of this crime-driven town. But diametrically opposite to his father, Munna is impulsive, aggressive, brash and above all power-hungry! His ‘act first, think later’ aggression often lands him into trouble – not that he doesn’t power-wrangle his out of it – yet it does keep Kaleen Bhaiya from entrusting him with the most important decisions to be made, which frustrates Munna no end. He is the strongest claimant to be the ‘King of Mirzapur’ and flaunts his dominance with pride!

High on swag, Divyenndu internalises the restless angst and projects it with gusto on to the character. His profanity-laden dialogues hit home and are absolutely a memer’s delight. He’s the bad boy, but there are times when you’d find yourself empathising for his Munna Bhaiya!

Ali Fazal is Govind Pandit aka Guddu

Once an aspiring body-builder, whose dream was to win Mr Purvanchal, while low-key enjoying the perks of working for Kaleen Bhaiya, things quickly spiral out of  control for Guddu. His aggression and anger had a buffer in his smart and calculative brother Vinay Pandit aka Bablu (Vikrant Massey). But after losing his loved ones and being crippled in the violent finale of Season 1, the season 2 will see Guddu embark on a revenge spree and become one of the biggest threats to Munna and his dreams of being the next Bahubali. But how he goes about it and if he succeeds is something that only the twists and turns of the story will slowly unravel.

Ali Fazal was frankly a surprise deal of Season 1. The actor’s filmography has seen him play milder roles even as a hero and this aggressive act as the hunky Guddu clearly had us bowled over. So all eyes on Ali’s Guddu Bhaiya then!

Shweta Tripathi is Gajgamini Gupta aka Golu Gupta

After a mega-shocker of an introductory scene (no we aren’t saying what it was, no spoilers right) in Season 1, Golu’s metamorphosis is now one of the most exciting ones to watch out for in Season 2. The play-by-the-rules Golu will be seen trading those rule-books with guns as she returns in a fierce 2.0 version of the cutesy Golu. As she sets out wielding guns, she seems determined and means business as she joins hands with Guddu to declare an unforgiving war against Munna and his cronies to avenge the deaths of their loved ones.

Shweta Tripathi is a powerhouse performer alright. But what she does as Golu will completely leave you in awe of this talented actor. The actress had earlier in an exclusive interview told us how she’d agreed to do Mirzapur because of her character graph in Mirzapur 2. And we’d agree. Her journey from being the sweet and naughty Golu to reaching the opposite end of the spectrum as a gritty girl promises to be super-interesting to watch.

Anjum Sharma is Sharad Shukla

Academically-inclined, the last thing Sharad wants is to be a part of the dirty crime-wars that his father Rati Shankar Shukla and Kaleen Bhaiya engage in from time-to-time as business rivals! It was at this note that the character had exited the show, but not without creating a lingering need and a curiosity in the minds of the viewers to know what happens to Sharad! And the ones who were rooting and predicting his return in a meaner, more intense avatar, well the trailer proves them right, as the character hints at revenge brewing! A reluctant player, Sharad does find himself sucked into the world of crime as he seeks vengeance. This tale of an under-dog is actually one of the most engaging plot lines! We are quite curious to see how his character (with hints of Godfather’s Michael Corleone) shapes up. Will he, alongwith his mother, (played by Meghna Malik) prove to be a formidable foe and bring about a shift in the power-dynamics, is something we are watching out for.

Anjum Sharma brings to the character a subtle intensity with utter ease. It’s almost like the actor knows when to wait patiently like a seasoned performer to make his move and when to pack in a punch! The Wazir actor was quite impressive in Season 1 and Season 2 has us completely rooting for him.  We’d bet on him as the surprise package of the season!

Rasika Dugal is Beena Tripathi

Kaleen Bhaiya’s adulterous second wife, she is also Munna’s stepmother. Keen on ensuring her power, she is unabashed when it comes to using her sexuality as a weapon and the means to power. She is ruthless in her quest and a key player you just can’t overlook.

Rasika Dugal is another strong performer that Mirzapur 1 & 2 boasts off. She brings a rustic charm to her seductress ways that make her a befitting queen in this greed for power.

Vijay Varma in a double role!

A new entrant or rather entrants to Mirzapur, Varma’s twin characters look like they’ll be heating up things further in the town for everyone. His politically-charged character especially looks loaded with grey shades as he seems unapologetically crafty and conniving in his approach. While the makers are keeping details under wraps about his twin outing, the trailer promises him to be a Jack-in-the-box ready to pop-up a surprising twist.

Vijay Varma has already proven his mettle as a strong performer in his various outings as an actor and he promises to bring in a certain unpredictability to the twin characters that may take the graph notches higher.

Also watch out for these two:

Isha Talwar & Lilliput

Isha Talwar is also joining the cast of Mirzapur 2 in a pivotal role and though not much is known about her character, it won’t be wrong to predict that it’ll be a powerful one.

As for veteran actor-writer Lilliput, he will be seen playing Dadda Tyagi, who seems to be in an important seat of power. Some of the dialogues dropped in the trailer hinted at his character proving that he’ll be a player to watch out for.
