Asif Basra, who is known for his performances in Kai Po Che, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, and most recently Paatal Lok was found dead in his home in Himachal Pradesh. The 53-year-old was found hanging in his rented complex in Dharamsala on November 12. The cause of death is a suspected case of suicide. The reason for the same is yet to be ascertained. The forensic team is currently on-site and investigating further.
Basra, a well-known and well-respected face in the industry was a phenomenal actor who has worked with actors such as Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif in the historical drama One Night with The King. He was best known for his role in Australian comedy Outsourced.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta who recently directed Scam 1992 expressed his regret in a tweet stating, “Asif Basra. Can’t be true.. This is just very, very sad.”
Manoj Bajpayee also conveyed his shock with a tweet saying, “What? This is too shocking!! Shot with him just before Lockdown!!! Oh My God!!!”
The late film and theatre actor was last seen in the Malayalam language thriller Big Brother (2020) starring Mohanlal and Abbas Khan.
