Dubai’s iconic Salik toll system is gearing up for transformative updates, promising smoother journeys and better-managed traffic flow for residents and commuters. Here’s a closer look at the latest developments that are set to redefine how Dubai drives.
Variable Toll Rates
Beginning January 2025, Salik will introduce variable toll pricing, a move designed to tackle peak-hour traffic and promote efficient road usage.
- During peak hours—6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM—motorists will be charged AED 6, an increase from the standard AED 4.
- During off-peak hours, the toll remains AED 4, with a free pass between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM.
- Sundays will see a flat AED 4 toll throughout the day, with free travel during the early morning hours.
This smart pricing strategy encourages drivers to adjust travel times, easing congestion during the busiest periods.
Two New Toll Gates
In a bid to enhance accessibility and streamline traffic, Salik added two new toll gates in November 2024, bringing the total number of toll locations to ten.
- The new gates are located at Business Bay Crossing and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, areas known for high traffic volumes.
- These additional gates aim to reduce bottlenecks, improve connectivity, and maintain Dubai’s reputation for efficient infrastructure.
