UAE NATIONAL DAY: Interesting facts about the upcoming special day!

UAE is gearing up to celebrate its 53rd National Day on December 2nd. The day celebrates the unification of the seven Emirates in 1971. This day holds deep historical and cultural significance  for both Emiratis and expatriates living in the country as they celebrate this occasion with a vibrant display of cultural pride, community spirit, and national unity. And as we celebrate the spirit of the momentous occasion, here’s taking a look at some interesting facts about the UAE National Day:

Eid Al Etihad: This year, the UAE officially renamed National Day to Eid AL Etihad which translates to Festival of the Union. The name highlights the unity and solidarity amongst the Emirates.

Formation of the UAE: On 2 December 1971 that the rulers of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Al-Ain, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain agreed to unite as one country. Under the guidance of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Nation’s first President, the United Arab Emirates emerged. Later in February 1972, Ras Al Khaimah decided to join and become the seventh Emirate.

National Anthem: The UAE’s national anthem, Ishy Bilady was originally conceived as an instrumental in 1971. In 1986, Dr. Aref Al Sheikh was given the task to write the words to the UAE’s national anthem, and the Cabinet approved the lyrics. 

Symbolism of the Flag: The colors of the UAE flag—green, white, black, and red—represent core values such as hope, peace, strength, and bravery, respectively. These colors are prominently displayed during National Day celebrations.

Month-Long Festivities: The celebrations kicked off on November 3 with Flag Day which leads to National Day on December 2. This includes various events across all seven Emirates such as fireworks, air shows, parade, traditional performances, flag garden tributes, and sports such as falconry and horse racing is also highlighted in some regions during the festivals.
