Katy Perry just added a new level to her résumé: pop star, icon, and an astronaut. The Firework singer rocketed beyond the Earth’s atmosphere with five phenomenal women aboard Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin flight — and they’ve now safely landed back on Earth with stardust in their hair and history in their pockets. Joining Perry on this celestial girl gang was Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sánchez, the ever-glam Gayle King, NASA alum Aisha Bowe, civil rights powerhouse Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn. This wasn’t just a joyride — it was an stratospheric statement.
According to Gayle King, it was hearing Katy Perry sing What a Wonderful World while literally in orbit – just Katy casually serenading the planet from space.
“I’m so proud of this crew, I can’t put it into words. I looked out of the window, and we got to see the moon. Earth looked so quiet. It was quiet, but really alive.” – Lauren Sánchez
After their parachute-assisted return to the desert, Katy and Gayle stepped out, kissed the ground, and Katy raised a daisy to the sky in honor of her daughter, Daisy Dove. Ground control officially melted, while Kerianne exited last.
“I went to space!” – Kerianne Flynn, Film Producer
It wasn’t a science mission in the traditional sense – no lunar experiments or Mars rocks here. But it was a cultural moment, and that matters too. Because space, apparently, looks great in a flight suit — especially when it’s matching and worn by six women making history.
Blue Origin claims their rocket only emits water vapor, but experts caution that water vapor at that altitude still messes with the ozone. In other words: it’s not carbon, but it’s not harmless either. Space fashion comes with a footprint — even if it’s a moon boot.
It’s been over 60 years since a woman went solo into space. This time, it was six women together — with laughter, daisy tributes, and a whole lot of sparkle. It wasn’t just a flight. It was a reminder: girls really do run the galaxy!
