In Dec 2022, filmmakers Imtiaz Ali, actors Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, and the entire crew of Chamkila took on a mammoth task of portraying the life and times of singers Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjyot Kaur. For the uninitiated, Chamkila and his wife were immensely popular and loved singers of Punjab, who were gunned down mysteriously in Mar 1988. It sent shockwaves through Punjabi speaking regions in India and abroad, with the case eventually never being solved.

Chopra signalled the wrap of the shoot with some pictures taken on-site at Mehsam Pur village, Punjab.Β She thanked Ali profusely and gave a shoutout to her co-star. We’ll ignore the fact that her shirt and his pants in this picture seemed to have co-ordinated and the result is hilarious.
The biopic is eagerly awaited as Chamkila had won the hearts of many Punjabis, and his music continues to inspire and feature in songs by artists such as Punjabi MC even today. Chopra and Dosanjh are a fresh pairing too, and with Ali at the helm, this film carries the potential to reach success.
