Madam Chief Minister Trailer: Richa Chadha looks fiery in this gritty political thriller

The political drama directed by Subhash Kapoor also stars Manav Kaul, Akshay Oberoi, Saurabh Shukla, Shubrajyoti Bharat and is slated to release on January 22

The makers of Madam Chief Minister dropped the trailer of their film starring Richa Chadha today and it does look promising. Set in an interesting backdrop of caste and gender politics, the trailer gives us a glimpse of what the thriller-drama is all about. Reportedly the film is based on the life of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati. Richa Chadha plays the protagonist and as always the actress seems to have nailed her part as a fire-brand go-getter to perfection. The trailer showcases her navigating the layers of greed, power and deceit in her rise to the top as a leading political figure. And Richa emotes even the most dramatic and intense scenes with a natural ease. Definitely one to watch out for.

Saurabh Shukla (as Richa’s mentor), Akshay Oberoi, Manav Kaul (as the husband) and Shubrajyoti Bharat (as the power-hungry politician) are the other actors – all known for their strong performances – and each of them seem to have fit the roles to the tee. Akshay’s brief glimpse in a bald avatar once again shows how unafraid he is an actor when it comes to experimenting and taking risks with his looks on screen. Manav brings in a quiet dignity to the role. Coming from director Subhash Kapoor (the man who gave us Jolly LLB and the Akshay Kumar starrer sequel) obviously raises expectations and the going by the trailer, looks like he will live up to them too.

On the flipside, we really think that Richa could’ve done with a better-fitting wig. But if you can oversee that, then you definitely are in for a treat of some really talented performers all in one frame!

A Kangra Talkies production, written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Naren Kumar and Dimple Kharbanda, the film is set to release in cinemas on January 22, 2021.
