Mills (played by Academy Award nominee Adam Driver), an interstellar pilot transporting a group of passengers through space, crash-lands on an unknown planet. The catastrophic landing kills all of his passengers on board the spaceship, except a young girl Koa (played by Ariana Greenblatt). What the two survivors do not know is that they are stranded on Earth 65 million years ago, when the planet is overrun by dinosaurs and other pre-historic creatures. It’s a race for survival as Mills discovers that their only chance to return home is to find their rescue pod of the spaceship that has landed across on the other side of a mountain in a terrain riddled with predators out for kill. As they begin their epic journey toward their only means of escape, they are hunted by vicious packs of dinosaurs that stalk them across the dangerous landscape.
While Mills misses his terminally-ill daughter back home, he makes it a mission to ensure the safe return of Koa, even though unknown to her, she has lost both her parents in the crash. As the two navigate their way from predators – both the flesh-eating and the poisonous kinds – the two also have to overcome their own language barriers and the rebellious attitude of the young Koa.
A fantastic action-adventure entertainer, this one is not to be missed especially if you are a fan of the genre! The amazing visuals laced with enticing action, an emotional storyline and peppered with some amazing comical moments, make it for that perfect family viewing! Fast-paced it kept us on the edge all through with all the jump-scares. The equation between Adam Driver with both Ariana as well as Chloe is endearing and touching.
Adam Driver, as always excels in this role and proves that as an actor there’s just no genre that he can’t ace! The award-winning actor who has starred in brilliant films like Paterson, Logan Lucky, The Man who Killed Don Quixote and The Report as well as BlacKkKlansman and Marriage Story, strikes that perfect balance between the high-octane action as a gun-trotting pilot and as a father grappling with emotions as he misses his daughter back home.
Meanwhile, Ariana Greenblatt who has been included as one of IMDB’s Top Stars to Watch in 2023 plays her role to perfection as the 9-year-old Koa. Recognized for portraying young Gamora in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and also her roles in popular movies and television series like Liv & Maddie, Legendary Dudas, Stuck in the Middle, A Bad Moms Christmas, among others, Ariana is adorably smart and vulnerable in parts.
