Radhika Apte’s Mrs Undercover trailer offers a glimpse of the spy comedy

A commonly misunderstood job is that of a housewife, and those are the undercurrents in the trailer of Zee 5’s upcoming project, Mrs. Undercover. Radhika Apte stars as the said Mrs Undercover, transitioning into that role from that of a common housewife, when work beckons. It’s a whodunit, no doubt, but with the basic premise that housewives are classified as, ‘She does nothing; she’s just a housewife’.

Apte is supported with a capable cast on her mission. After Gaslight with Sara Ali Khan, Vikrant Massey joins in this caper. As do Rajesh Sharma and Sumit Vyas. Apte’s role is that of a formerly trained spy, who’s been content in her passive role of a housewife since a decade. And in those years, she has become a completely different person, putting ahead the needs of her family – whether it’s her son, mother-in-law or a patriarchal husband.

The idea that she is the one who can help stop the madness is unbelievable to her. The belief that she is ‘just a housewife’ is emphasises upon, and you can see that the thought is embedded into her consciousness. She breaks that upon contant cajoling from Sharma’s character, and upon much humourous convincing, she agrees to job. Of course, it’s hilarious from there on.

Mrs. Undercover is slated for an April 15 release on Zee 5, and is the debut directing and writing work by Anushree Mehta.
