Fashion Week 2021: The 3-Day fashion extravaganza was a treat for fashion lovers; Check out the highlights

An impressive line-up of renowned designers and glamorous shows, the fashion fiesta was a spectacular experience with the best of global talents

Fashion Week 2021 showcased Asia’s finest designers and their exceptional collections. Premiering at The Arena, IMG Worlds of Adventure, on an exquisite purpose-built ramp, the event was a 3-day long fashion extravaganza that delighted every fashion lover and style influencer. The premier fashion platform in a post-pandemic Dubai has been the 1st in the region to creatively showcase how neo-normal fashion will emerge.

A unique showcasing, where trends and theatre took centerstage, this event was very well curated with the right mix of design talent, creative and high quality of production.

Founder and Producer of Fashion Week 2021, Saif Ali Khan, who also spearhead Supreme Events, the producers of this prestigious event says, “In keeping with the trajectory set by the Rulers of Dubai, we created this Fashion Week, to support the designers. Our aim is to revive the business of fashion, stirring livelihood generation for the farmer who grows fiber, weavers, mills, embroidery craft workers, tailors. It is time to shine the spotlight on designers, choreographers, makeup and hair artists, models, light and sound producers, to give them a platform to shine on post pandemic.”

Kevin Oliver’s choreography set this event apart from most recent fashion weeks. The spectacular shows, peppered with dance, gymnastics, interlaced with storytelling were a visual treat. Combined with theatrics, the music performances and the interplay of light, they were all a sheer delight. The high quality of production, associated with both Saif Ali Khan and Kevin Oliver, ensured that Fashion Week 2021, sets a high bar, for showcasing style.

Striking a chord with celebrities, fashion enthusiasts, influencers, this immersive experience also resonated deeply with the local buyers who were in attendance. Alongside the glamour show is a community initiative termed ‘Bazaar’, which displayed delightful products from the regions micro and small businesses owners.

Day 1

Day 1 had Emirati elegance echo through the collections launched by Rabia Z & Ameera Al Ahli’s House of Ikat, while Atelier Zuhra showcased a ‘Rebirth Collection’ celebrating Dubai’s love for grace and elegance. Victor Closet’s collection was a visual documentation of how modern, minimalistic men in Dubai prefer to explore and expresses themselves through design and dress. Angelo Estera’s eponymous collection showcases how Dubai is still replete with couture culture and has an everlasting love for fine hand-embellishments. The diversity of this line up, echoes the leadership’s commitment to diversity and cultural inclusion.

Day 1 set the cursor very high for the following days, setting a new trajectory for fashion platforms across MENA and Asia. Shining the spotlight on the best of the fashion talent, MENASA region offers, the event created an array of opportunities for emerging designers and students. Most of the collections were created to stir economic sustainability for weavers, painters, artisans, tailors and hand embellishers who have been badly impacted during the pandemic, ensuring that Fashion Week 2021 is about style with substance.

Day 2

The opening show, highlighted emerging talent, Areej RIMAWI selected by Splash Fashions and co-presented by Supreme Events. But raising the style quotient, Day 2 saw a powerful line up of designers – Varoin Marwah, Rocky S and Limak by Kamil – showcasing remarkable ensembles, signing diversity, as designers from different regions, came together to launch their signature styles.

Iulia Vantur as the showstopper for Varoin grabbed eyeballs with her grace, and showcased the designer’s ability to reflect the refinement and finesse expected by the power woman of today.

Rocky’s newest collection was all shimmer and glittering starlight reflected through a combination of classic black and antique gold. The detailed sparkling sequin embroideries gave the ace designer’s collection an edge.

Saif Ali Khan adds, “We had to dare, we had to bring hope and light to the Fashion Industry. We also wanted to stir joy to the hearts of Dubai’s fashion lovers.” Day 2 proved to do just that!

Day 3

The 3-day extravaganza of fashion theatre ended on a high note. Showcasing timeless designs and covering various styles of different generations, Jordanian designer Lara had Nargis Fakhri as the showstopper highlighting the classic beauty lines. Noman Ansari with his collection ‘The Secret Courtyard’ created a play of colour and creativity with a twist of glittery glam. On the other hand, Nivedita chose an unusual set for winter – ivories, baby pinks, pastel blues and a dash of grey. Artsy designer Benhode showcased a cool ‘Art meets Augmented Reality’ collection.

“I love Lara’s flowy silhouettes and the motifs,” Nargis Fakhri told us exclusively.

But the highlight was definitely Amato By Furne One. Always avant-garde, always bold, a perfect choice for a finale show, Furne created a concerto, fusing style with drama. In his unique signature style, he sets the route that the rest of UAE’s Haute Couture community follows. The collection saw him using the glitter of gold, his silhouettes were sleek and sensual, yet strong with a rebellious edge.

“My collection is a celebration of the 50 years of UAE,” Amato shared with us exclusively ahead of the show.

Creating a wide vocabulary of cuts, the designer playfully showed his masterful ability to construct and deconstruct simultaneously. Fragile fantasy and futurism were fused.

On that crescendo Fashion Week 2021 dropped its curtains, closing on a successful note. Taking a bow, Saif Ali Khan, said “We are proud to be a part of Dubai, to follow in the footsteps of our leadership, reviving a sector that is my passion, MENASA’s fashion industry.”
