Lata Mangeshkar has been heralded as the Nightingale of Indian music. Today, the veteran songstress shared a poignant post on her Twitter handle that goes to show the number of years she has dedicated to a life in music.

Her post mentions that she received a phone call from a known family friend who sent her a photo of her first classical music performance with her father way back in September 8th 1938 in Solapur. The photo she shared is from the publicity material used for the concert. She states that she cannot fathom that she has been singing for the past 83 years.
Lata Mangeshkar was born in 1929 and has been an indelible part of the Hindi film industry and awarded heavily.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was bestowed on her in 1989 by the Government of India. In 2001, she was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour and is only the second vocalist, after M. S. Subbulakshmi, to receive this honour. France conferred on her its highest civilian award, the Officer of the Legion of Honour, in 2007. She is the recipient of three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, two Filmfare Special Awards, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and many more. In 1974, she became the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
