If the foodie in you is craving for that slice of authentic North Indian flavor, then Khyber, Dukes The Palm, a Royal Hideaway Hotel has an entire menu to indulge your taste-buds right here in Dubai! We tried their signature dishes as well as several others on their menu and came away impressed. From the starters to the desserts, Khyber Head Chef Faizan Ali has his finger on the food pulse!
All Mumbai folks would already be well-aware of this famous restaurant that has its roots there since 1958. Well, the Khyber here replicates that taste and authenticity perfectly. Started in 2017, the fine-dining restaurant here seems to be quite a favourite, as the place was running packed on the Friday evening that we visited.

Location & Ambience
Its love at first sight as the beautiful beach view Khyber offers will have you bowled over. Conveniently located at Oceana, Palm Jumeirah, Dukes The Palm’s plush interiors lead one up to Khyber’s beautifully done décor. Lending the restaurant a rich Indian feel are the stunning wall arts, reminiscent of the North culture. The soft lights add to the fine dining experience. Since we dropped by on Friday, the Bollywood evening was in full swing and we were treated to some amazing desi music and hit chartbusters that kept the mood buzzing.
This is where our interest lay more than anything else. So, we asked for the chef’s recommendations for their signature dishes and also opted for a few of our own choices.
Starters: For starters we had the Khyber Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Prawns, Tandoori lamb chops. The prawns and the chops are what we would definitely recommend. The flavorsome juicy prawns and succulent bites of the well-cooked chops make the two a high scorer. The accompaniments of the chutneys, pickled onions, and pickles only add to the mouth-watering quotient. The refreshing cucumber based cooler and the green apple based coolers went well with the meals. You could optionally also try their fresh chhaas or lassi options for that desi touch.
Main course: When it came to the main course, we tried the Prawn Jalfrezi, the Khyber speciality – their Khyber Rann and because there is no North Indian cuisine complete without Butter Chicken, we had that as well. This we had with a platter of Indian breads – Garlic butter Naan and the Lachha Parathas. The Rann just melted smoothly in our mouths, we were told that its total preparation time is close to 24 hours including its marination and cooking. Well, it was easy to see why it’s their signature dish, definitely a must-try for meat lovers! The Butter chicken too was unlike we’ve ever had. Minus the sweetness, the dish made for an interesting bite.
Desserts: Next came the desserts and we had the Gulab Jamun that came on a generous layer of rabdi and a healthy dash of oats. We also had the halwa, with kulfi on the side.
The secret spices: What struck us most about the dishes were the unique spices that lend the delicacies their distinct flavours. The secret, chef shared, was that the spices are not sourced from outside, but ground right in the kitchen.
Taste & portion: The meats are well-done, the spices perfect. The flavours are subtle but distinct and the portion of each dish sits just right for two.
Service & Presentation
The attendants are polite and clearly well-versed with what’s on their menu. They are good with their recommendations too. The fine dining experience is overall a relaxed affair and ideal for family outings.
Their special Summer Menu of AED 120 per person is totally worth your money.
Definitely their signature Khyber Rann, and also the Tandoori Prawns. The place is the perfect choice for a desi evening out with family or friends and the views only add to the amazing food experience. So go for it!
