Netflix’s upcoming series The Romantics brings the art of filmi romance to your TV screens

In the last 50 years on Hindi cinema, innumerable (well, almost!) romantic films have been made, but pick few that were absolutely loved by the audience, and chances are that filmmaker Aditya Chopra was involved. His contribution to Bollywood is priceless, and this series seeks to explore exactly that.

But this is no ordinary series; Netflix ups its game, with the trailer teasing us that Chopra has interviewed with them. As a Bollywood fan, you probably know that Chopra is major recluse, and hardly ever faces the camera himself. This is truly a strange phenomenon, because even when other actors are informed about this, they’re resistant to believe it.
The trailer opens with Chopra’s wife, Rani  Mukherjee, smiling to the camera. Three generations of Bollywood have participated – from the late Rishi Kapoor to Madhuri Dixit to Hrithik Roshan to Bhumi Pednekar. All are bound by the same thread of Aditya Chopra’s romantic films. The four-part series is directed by Smriti Mundhra of Indian Matchmaking.
