Today marks 11 years since one of the biggest boybands in the history of pop music was formed. One direction may not be together anymore but that hasn’t deterred the fans from celebrating this milestone.
The British- Irish boyband was formed in 2010 on The X Factor. Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Liam Payne were became household names instantly due to their performance in the reality show.
None of the boys were acquainted before the band was formed by Simon Cowell. But the leap of faith proved to be fruitful when One Direction became the best selling boyband by selling more than 70million records worldwide with a net worth of £280million as of today.
On March 25, 2015 however, things seemed to start going downhill when everyone’s beloved member Zayn Malik decided to leave the band when they were in middle of their OTRA tour. The departure broke a million hearts and four more. The boys decided to continue as a four piece band and made their 5th album Made In The AM.
In January 2016 the boys announced that they were going on an 18 months hiatus which has now turned to a 6 year break. The members all have very successful solo careers now. We miss them but also wish them all the luck for the upcoming projects!
