Five takeaways from the night
Paul Thomas Anderson had the best evening. Picture, director and screenplay wins for One Battle After Another, plus Teyana Taylor’s supporting prize, made it the film to beat.
Jessie Buckley became the Best Actress favourite. Her Hamnet win, alongside the film’s top Drama prize, set her up for the rest of the season.
Netflix’s animated hit kept winning. KPop Demon Hunters took both Animated Film and Original Song, a remarkable run for a film that began life as a streaming release.
Adolescence dominated TV. The British limited series won its category plus three acting awards, including one for teenage actor Owen Cooper.
Brazil’s The Secret Agent travelled. Wagner Moura won Best Actor, Drama, and the film also won Non-English Language, proof that the Globes still reward world cinema outside the foreign-language box.
Honorary awards and Indian star power
The two lifetime honours were handed out at Golden Eve, a separate hour-long special that aired on 8 January. Helen Mirren received the Cecil B. DeMille Award from Harrison Ford, and Sarah Jessica Parker received the Carol Burnett Award for television.
Indian audiences had a familiar face on stage. Priyanka Chopra presented Best Actor in a Drama Series with Lisa of Blackpink, handing the award to Noah Wyle for The Pitt.
How the Golden Globes 2026 winners fared at the Oscars
The Globes are voted on by a different body from the Academy, so they are a guide rather than a guarantee. This year the signals were strong. At the 98th Academy Awards on 15 March 2026, One Battle After Another won Best Picture and five more Oscars, and Anderson won Best Director.
Several Golden Globes 2026 winners repeated the feat. Jessie Buckley won Best Actress, KPop Demon Hunters won Animated Feature and Original Song, and Ludwig Göransson won Original Score for Sinners, according to the 98th Academy Awards record on Wikipedia.
Others fell short. Michael B. Jordan beat Timothée Chalamet to Best Actor, Amy Madigan and Sean Penn took the supporting prizes, and Sentimental Value won International Feature ahead of The Secret Agent.
