Sara Ali Khan’s Gaslight’s trailer promises a crisp whodunit

The trailer definitely does justice to its title

Sara Ali Khan plays Meesha, a wheelchair-bound differently-abled child of a rich family who returns home to her town Mayagarh, only to find her dad missing. Shes’s estranged to her step mother, who tries to convince her that her dad will return in 3-4 days. But Meesha smells foul play and proceeds to look into the matter, and that’s where her quest begins.

It’s interesting to see Sara Ali Khan and Vikrant Massey together; unusual casting for sure and it’s Khan’s maiden attempt at a thriller. And it’s refreshing to see Chitrangda Singh back in a project that does justice to her screen presence and beauty. Massey plays a trusty Man Friday to the missing patriarch of the house, who would have clues about his whereabouts. Akshay Oberoi plays a neighbourhood friend of Meesha; is he a friend or a foe, that’s a mystery for now. Rahul Dev plays a police inspector; is he hand in glove with Singh’s ‘Rukmini’?

As the trailer progress, the tone gets more and more gruesome and darker. Is someone trying to attack Meesha on purpose? Did she witness her father dead body in a car? If yes, it seems to have vanished overnight.. A quick montage of incidents enough to pique your intrigue.

Gaslight’s trailer is chills-inducing, and promises to be a good watch. Hopefully, the film holds up to the promise. Directed by Pavan Kriplani and produced by Ramesh Taurani and Akshai Puri, Gaslight releases on Disney+ Hotstar on Mar 31.
