Travelling Solo? Here’s what you need to know!

Travelling solo can be one of the most self-indulging experience one can take. It not just feels liberating and therapeutic but we are also on a journey of self-discovery. We meet versions of ourselves that we haven’t tapped before. There are several places in the world where you can go on a solo trip. Although this may sound exciting and thrilling there are certain aspects to bear in mind, always!

—Safety
Most commonly advised tips and suggestions always revolve around safety. You are heading to a land that is unfamiliar and new, you wouldn’t know how you would react or handle a situation. When traveling solo, it’s always best to pick an accommodation in the city. Avoid narrow and secluded lanes at odd hours, most importantly make sure you purchase an insurance before travelling, just to be secure and not regret later. Share all the hotel and contact details with a family or friend back home.

— Research
The building block of any trip is research. Especially while travelling solo, research is the best way to inform yourself about the place you are headed to. There are plenty of ways to do so, talking personally to people who have visited the place or through various travel forums available online. But the best way to update yourself is through videos and vlogs. These real life experiences will guide you closer to reality and the visuals help you familiarize with the place.

— Hostels
A major advantage of travelling solo is the budget. It’s just you, your backpack and your demands. Hostels are a great way to save those extra bucks and also to meet new, likeminded people. They are usually neat and well located with someone to guide you with transport and tour options.

— Itinerary
We tend to take this part super lightly and end up wasting our time and energy during the trip. Having a plan with room for spontaneous exploring is never a bad idea. It’s not a mandate to stick to the exact itinerary, but knowing the existence of places and areas can help you sail smoothly.

—Network
What makes a trip unforgettable is the memories. A solo trip may make you feel lonely and disconnected, don’t let that overpower you. You are there to explore, meet new people and make friends. Locals can be the best way to know a city, make sure to speak with them and learn a thing or two. However, be wise when it comes to trusting people!

Solo trips can turn into an experience of a lifetime. Is it already on your bucket list?
