Devil Wears Prada 2 brought Miranda Priestly back to the big screen 20 years after the original, and audiences turned up in style. Here are eight things to know about the sequel, from the returning cast to its $693 million box office run.
Devil Wears Prada 2 reunites Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, with Andy Sachs returning to Runway as features editor just as the magazine fights for survival. David Frankel directs again from a script by Aline Brosh McKenna, who also wrote the 2006 film.
It opened in the US on 1 May 2026 with $76.7 million and earned about $693 million worldwide, more than double the first film. It has streamed on Disney+ in the US since 29 July.

1. Devil Wears Prada 2 brings back the original four
Streep returns as Miranda Priestly, Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Blunt as Emily Charlton and Tucci as Nigel Kipling. Tracie Thoms is back as Andy’s friend Lily, and Tibor Feldman returns as Irv Ravitz.
Development was reported in July 2024, and the leads came at a price. Streep, Hathaway and Blunt each received $12.5 million upfront, with backend deals that could take each of them past $20 million.
2. The story moves Andy back to Runway
Twenty years on, Andy is a respected journalist whose newsroom is laid off by text message. Irv hires her as Runway‘s features editor without telling Miranda, who is under fire over a puff piece.
When a new owner’s plans, including bringing in AI for staffing, threaten the magazine, Andy and Miranda find themselves on the same side. The first film was about the cost of ambition; the sequel asks what happens to that ambition when the industry itself is shrinking.
3. The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast adds new power players
- Justin Theroux as Benji Barnes
- Lucy Liu as Sasha Barnes
- Kenneth Branagh as Stuart Simmons
- B.J. Novak as Jay Ravitz
- Simone Ashley as Amari Mari
- Rachel Bloom as Talia and Pauline Chalamet as Ilana Poole
- Lady Gaga as a fictionalised version of herself
Simone Ashley, the British actor of Indian heritage best known for Bridgerton, gives South Asian audiences a familiar face in the new generation at Runway.
4. The cameo list reads like a front row
Fashion’s biggest names appear as themselves, including Naomi Campbell, Donatella Versace, Marc Jacobs, Heidi Klum, Winnie Harlow, Ashley Graham and stylist Law Roach. Former Vanity Fair and New Yorker editor Tina Brown also turns up.
Beyond fashion, the film finds room for golfer Rory McIlroy, NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns, musician Jon Batiste and Korean actor Moon Ga-young. A planned cameo by Sydney Sweeney was cut.
5. It was shot in New York, Milan and Lake Como
Filming began on 30 June 2025 and wrapped on 20 October. The production shot across Manhattan from July, with interiors built at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens.
In September the crew filmed at a Dolce and Gabbana show in Milan, returning for the main Italian shoot from 6 to 18 October. Villa del Balbiano on Lake Como stands in as Benji’s villa.
6. Lady Gaga and record trailers drove the hype
The first teaser, released on 12 November 2025, drew 181.5 million views in 24 hours, reportedly the most for a comedy trailer in 15 years. The full trailer on 1 February 2026 did even better, with 222 million views, a record for 20th Century Studios.
Lady Gaga and Doechii’s lead single “Runway” was released on 9 April, and Gaga contributes two more songs, including “Shape of a Woman”, which she performs in the film. In April, Streep and Anna Wintour shared a Vogue cover.

7. Devil Wears Prada 2 box office: more than double the original
The sequel took $32.5 million on its first day in the US, including $10 million from Thursday previews. Its $76.7 million domestic weekend nearly tripled the original’s $27.5 million opening in 2006, as The Hollywood Reporter covered at the time.
The $233.6 million global launch was the second-biggest of 2026 for a Hollywood studio film, behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and the biggest of Streep’s and Blunt’s careers.
It finished at $693.1 million worldwide, with $220.6 million from the US and Canada and $472.5 million internationally, according to the film’s Wikipedia entry. That makes it the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2026 and takes the two films past $1 billion combined.
8. Critics liked it, with one controversy
Rotten Tomatoes counted 78% positive from 346 reviews, and its consensus says Streep wears Miranda “like a finely-tailored suit” in a “sinfully enjoyable sequel”. Metacritic scored it 63 out of 100, and CinemaScore audiences gave it an A minus, up from the original’s B.
The main criticism was that the sequel plays safer than the first film. Some critics also objected to the character Jin Chao, whose name drew comparisons to a slur, and McKenna defended the character.
