Spider-Man Brand New Day brought Tom Holland back as Peter Parker for a fourth solo outing, and it became the biggest film of 2026. Here are eight facts about the story, the cast and a box office run that rewrote the record books.

Spider-Man Brand New Day opened on 30 July 2026 in India and 31 July in the US, with Destin Daniel Cretton directing for Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios and Pascal Pictures. It picks up four years after No Way Home, with a Peter Parker the world has completely forgotten.

The short answer for anyone wondering how it performed: remarkably well. It passed $2.45 billion worldwide, became the third-highest-grossing film ever and overtook Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the biggest release in US history.Spider-Man Brand New Day poster with Tom Holland

1. Spider-Man Brand New Day starts where No Way Home ended

At the end of No Way Home, Doctor Strange’s spell wiped Peter Parker from everyone’s memory, and Peter chose not to reintroduce himself to MJ and Ned to keep them safe. Spider-Man Brand New Day jumps four years forward from there.

Peter now protects New York anonymously, sticking to street-level crime. Overwork and personal strain cause his powers to change in potentially dangerous ways, including organic web-shooting, just as a new telepathic threat emerges.

The title comes from the 2008 “Brand New Day” comic storyline and was announced at CinemaCon in March 2025. Holland has described the film as “the first movie in the next chapter” rather than a fourth instalment.

2. The Brand New Day cast mixes old friends and new faces

  • Tom Holland as Peter Parker
  • Zendaya as MJ
  • Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds
  • Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
  • Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, the Punisher
  • Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova
  • Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner
  • Michael Mando as Mac Gargan, the Scorpion
  • Tramell Tillman as Bill Metzger

Eman Esfandi plays MJ’s new love interest, a painful detail for a hero she no longer remembers. Marvin Jones III appears as Lonnie Lincoln, better known to comic readers as Tombstone.

3. Sadie Sink plays Jean Grey in Spider-Man Brand New Day

The Stranger Things star’s casting as Jean Grey is the clearest sign yet that the X-Men are heading into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It also explains the telepathic threat Peter faces this time.

Marvel kept the role quiet for months, with early reports from industry journalist Jeff Sneider linking Sink to the character well before release.

4. A grounded, street-level Spider-Man

With Jon Bernthal’s Punisher on board, Spider-Man Brand New Day leans towards gritty crime action rather than multiverse spectacle. Scorpion and Tombstone lead the villains, with Boomerang, Tarantula and the Hand also in the mix.

Filming began on 3 August 2025 in Glasgow under the working title Blue Oasis, with the Scottish city centre standing in for New York. The shoot moved to Pinewood Studios and English locations including Battersea Park and Senate House, wrapping in December 2025.

Brett Pawlak shot it, and it was the first film made specifically for the ScreenX format. Critics welcomed the more mature tone: Rotten Tomatoes recorded 90% positive from 320 reviews, and audiences gave it an A CinemaScore.

5. Spider-Man Brand New Day had the second-biggest global opening ever

The hype was visible early. Sony said the first trailer drew 718.6 million views in 24 hours, a record, and first-day US presales were the best since No Way Home five years earlier.

Opening-weekend estimates put the film at $355 million in North America and $927 million worldwide, the second-best global debut of all time, as The Star reported on the opening weekend. Final figures came in higher, at $360 million domestic and $932 million worldwide, edging past the $357 million Avengers: Endgame took in North America in 2019.

6. Spider-Man Brand New Day ruled cinemas in India and the UAE

India embraced it from day one. Khaleej Times reported that its opening day beat Avengers: Endgame as the biggest for a non-Indian film, and Variety India counted ₹387 crore in the country in August alone, the largest single contribution to 2026’s busiest month at the box office.

The Gulf followed suit. The film took AED 47.2 million in the UAE across its first two weekends, according to tbreak, the biggest UAE run of 2026 at that point and ahead of the four-week total for The Odyssey.

It held the number one spot in the UAE on both of those weekends, even as Malayalam and Tamil releases took three of the top five places in its second week.

7. It is the biggest US release of all time

The records kept falling. It reached $1 billion worldwide in six days and $2 billion after three weekends, second only to Endgame for speed. In North America it was the fastest film to $700 million, $800 million and $900 million.

By mid-September, after 47 days, its domestic total stood at $936.8 million, passing Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the highest-grossing US release ever, Variety reported. Worldwide, only Avatar and Avengers: Endgame have earned more.

As Gulf News noted in its box office report, it overtook Avatar: The Way of Water within 31 days. At that stage about 62% of its takings came from outside North America, led by China, Japan, the UK and India.

8. Spider-Man Brand New Day sets up Marvel’s next chapter

The film arrived at a turning point. After a difficult 2025 for Marvel with Captain America: Brave New World and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it gave the studio its biggest hit in years, with Avengers: Doomsday and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom due in December.

Amy Pascal said in 2021 that this would be the first film of a new trilogy, and Holland has said he will play the character “for as long as they’ll have me”. No sequel has been formally dated yet.

Where to watch Spider-Man Brand New Day in the UAE

For now, the big screen is the place to see it. Variety has reported that a re-release with new footage is in the works, though no date has been announced, so keep an eye on UAE cinema listings.

For streaming, Sony signed a deal with Netflix in January 2026 for global first pay-window rights, rolling out territory by territory from later in 2026. No UAE streaming date has been confirmed, so check the Netflix app nearer the time.
