Dhamaal 4 brought Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaaferi back together for another treasure chase, and audiences turned up even when critics shrugged. Here are six things to know about the comedy’s return.
Dhamaal 4 is the fourth film in Indra Kumar’s slapstick series, and it opened in cinemas on Friday 10 July 2026. Despite mixed reviews, it crossed ₹100 crore worldwide in four days and finished at about ₹224.58 crore, among the biggest Hindi results of the year.
The road to that release was bumpy, with the date moving several times to dodge bigger films. It is now streaming, so fans who missed it in cinemas can catch up at home.

1. Dhamaal 4 continues a franchise that began in 2007
The series started with Dhamaal on 7 September 2007, a chase comedy heavily inspired by the American film Rat Race. It made ₹50.73 crore worldwide on a ₹10 crore budget, according to the Wikipedia entry on the Dhamaal film series.
Double Dhamaal followed in June 2011 and Total Dhamaal in February 2019. The third film brought Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit into the gang and grossed ₹228.27 crore worldwide, which remains the franchise’s best result.
The formula has barely changed: a group of greedy, hapless friends, a fortune just out of reach and a lot of physical comedy. That familiarity is exactly what the new film sells.
2. Dhamaal 4 cast: the old gang plus new faces
Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaaferi are the trio the series has been built around, and they return as Lallan, Adi and Manav. Ajay Devgn, who also produces, comes back as Guddu, with Sanjay Mishra as Johnny.
The wider ensemble includes Ravi Kishan as Captain Michael, Upendra Limaye, Anjali Anand, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Esha Gupta and Vijay Patkar. Our story on Ravi Kishan joining Ajay Devgn in Dhamaal 4 covered his casting.
Wikipedia also lists cameos from Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, who starred in the first two films. Guru Randhawa appears in his own song, “Qeher”.
3. The story is a race for a pirate’s treasure
Bollywood Hungama’s review sets it up simply: Guddu, an antique dealer, and his partner Johnny learn that a man knows where a pirate’s buried treasure lies. Mix-ups over a map soon draw Adi, Lallan and a crowd of rivals into the chase, and streaming synopses say the hunt leads to a mysterious island.
Filming began in April 2025 and ran for more than six months, with locations in Mumbai and Mud Island, before wrapping on 6 September 2025. Tanishk Bagchi is among several composers, and three songs, “Chatni”, “Qeher” and “Saree”, were released through June 2026.
4. The Dhamaal 4 release date kept moving
The film was first set for 19 March 2026, the Eid al-Fitr weekend. In January, T-Series pushed it to 12 June to avoid a crowded March that included Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
It then moved to 4 July, only a week after Akshay Kumar’s Welcome to the Jungle on 26 June. Variety India reported in May that, after a conversation between Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, it moved to the 17 July weekend to give both comedies room.
One more shuffle followed. When Yash Raj Films moved Alpha to 3 July, the makers announced on 9 June that the comedy would take the 10 July slot. It shared that week with Disney’s live-action Moana and A24’s The Invite.
5. Dhamaal 4 reviews were mixed
Critics were split. Bollywood Hungama gave it 3 out of 5, calling it “a decent, clean entertainer that should appeal to families and kids”, while noting that several gags do not land.
The Free Press Journal was tougher, giving 2 stars and describing a film that is loud, silly and stress-free but short on actual comedy. Filmibeat’s review headline went further, calling it worse than Welcome to the Jungle, and BollywoodLife felt it missed the mark, though it praised Riteish Deshmukh for delivering the laughs.
6. The box office told a happier story
Word of mouth beat the reviews. According to Business Today, the film opened at ₹14 crore nett in India, rose to ₹22.50 crore on Saturday and ₹28.50 crore on Sunday, and stood at ₹102.83 crore worldwide after four days.
By day 12, the Free Press Journal reported an India nett of ₹131.75 crore, an overseas gross of ₹22.30 crore and ₹179.10 crore worldwide, against a reported budget of around ₹200 crore. A 23% jump on the second Tuesday showed it still had legs.
Wikipedia’s list of Hindi films of 2026 puts the final Dhamaal 4 total at ₹224.58 crore worldwide, fourth on its table behind Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Border 2 and Bhooth Bangla. Alpha, its July neighbour, sits at ₹98.62 crore.
It also kept Ajay Devgn’s year moving. In October, Drishyam: The Conclusion opened at ₹62 crore nett, which Gulf News reported as the biggest opening of his career.
Where to watch Dhamaal 4
The comedy began streaming on Netflix on 4 September 2026. Catalogues vary by country, so viewers in the UAE and across the Gulf should search for it in the Netflix app to confirm it is available in their region.
It works best as a family watch with low expectations: the jokes are broad, the cast clearly enjoys itself and the treasure hunt keeps moving.
