Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency set to release on 24th November!

Actress, producer, and now-turned-director, Kangana Ranaut is all set to bring a gripping story from India’s political history. Her next directorial Emergency puts light upon the 1975 event which is considered to be the darkest period from post-Independence India. The first look of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency had hit home with fans lauding the actress’ outstanding performance in the first look as India’s first female Prime Minister. The actress’ prosthetics and mannerisms which she has worked on to essay the role have also hit the bull’s eye. The announcement video also marked 48 years since the Prime Minister had a state of emergency declared across the country. Kangana’s period drama is based on this very same event with a stellar star cast in which she will be seen playing the role of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Now Kangana has announced the release date of her directorial Emergency. The film is slated to hit the big screens on 24th November 2023.

Kangana shares, “Emergency is one of the most significant and darkest chapters in our history that young India needs to know. It is a crucial story and I want to thank my super-talented actors like late Satish ji, Anupam ji, Shreyas, Mahima, and Milind for embarking on this creative journey together. I am excited to bring this extraordinary episode from India’s history to the big screen. Jaihind!”

She adds, “Through the course of filming Emergency, learning about the events that unfolded in 1975 gave me a deeper understanding of Indian history. People call it the darkest phase in Indian history, but a lot of people don’t understand why Indiraji took the decision she did. With the film, I aspire to bring that side of the story out too. I am sure, a lot of people will view those events in a different light after watching the film.”

48 years down the line, Kangana took to Twitter giving fans a preview. She shared a detailed account of what happened in 1975 India and how declaring the Emergency was a landmark decision for the Indian National Congress. While Kangana had been treating fans to various looks of characters from the film, yesterday, she further shared an announcement video bringing the world of Emergency a little closer for the audience.

Manikarnika Films presents Emergency directed and produced by Kangana Ranaut from a screenplay by Ritesh Shah and a story by Ranaut.
