‘Qatil Hassenaon ke Naam,’ is a liberating watch! Watch the star-cast’s interview here!

Qatil Haseenaon ke Naam that released on December 10 th @Zee5 is an unapologetic portrayal of women in a desi noir series is directed by Britain based director Meenu Gaur. Meenu Kaur and Farjad Nabi  made Zinda Bhaag starring Naseeruddin Shah,  that was selected as the first Pakistani film in over 50 years to be submitted for the Oscars. The film had premiered at the Abu Dhabi Film Fesitval a few years ago.

QHKN is an artistic piece of work with hauntingly beautiful poetry and  aesthetically shot frames that softens the blood and gore within it. Ageism, sexism, body shaming and all relevant issues peep out of its many characters. Kudos to the men Ahsan Khan and Sheheryar Munawar Siddiqui who are part of it within various character capacities, not necessarily heroic.

This anthology series of six episodes features stories of women, who will stop at nothing to pull themselves out of situations they are in and are happy to break societal norms. The dimly sit gulleys of Andhroon sheher, a butchery splashing with blood, old heritage mansions, women characters central to the narrative. The neighbour hood of Mai (Samiya Mumtaz) who lives in her palatial villa is the breeding ground for many a stories and mysteries that gradually unfold. Watch it to savour the darker side, it is liberating.  Here’s a sample dialogue

Anarkali, agar ishq saccha ho, yaa dil lahu lahu hota hain, yaa haath (When love is true,  either the heart gets bloodied or the hands)
