Spend your weekend with these hit K-Drama rom-coms

Binge away!

We know you want to lay on the couch and watch TV all weekend, and we’re here to better it with some killer recommendations. Whether you’re a K-drama fan or not, these are some of the cutest dramas to get started with, and set a positive tone for the coming week. For K-drama champs who might’ve already seen these – how about a rerun?

Here’s the list:

What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?

We begun our list with the drama that catapulted Park Seo Joon into utter stardom. Paired opposite Park Min Young, this workplace romance has  bits of comic action, and loads of childhood trauma. As a K-drama fan, you probably expect the childhood connect as you watch along, but nothing will prepare you for the comic timing that Seo Joon and Min Young share here.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

It’s hard not to root for Kim Bok Joo’s crush in this university rom-com. Set in a sports academy, Lee Sung Kyung plays a weight lifter, and Nam Joo Hyuk is a swimmer. Their love unfolds on campus, peppered with unbelievable moments of hilarity. This one’s a must-watch.

True Beauty

This campus romance triangle signalled the arrival of male leads Hwan In Yeop and Cha Eun Woo. With the use of deft make-up skills, female lead Moon Ga Young aims to reinvent herself at high school, and overcome the bullying. Her new avatar makes her a beauty queen, and relationship complications arise.

Oh My Venus

With superb comic timing, Shin Min Ah is a relatable character to most. In her 30s, overweight, and with a sleeping disorder! What happens when she requests (more like blackmails!) a chaebol fitness trainer to take her on as a client? Lots of tough training, and of course, love. Mind you though, you might have eyes only for So Ji Sub as the trainer.

She Was Pretty

Set in a fashion magazine’s office, this one sees Park Seo Joon as the suave editor, and the clumsy Hwang Jung Eum as an office assistant. To start you off with the plot: A handsome Seo Joon fails to recognise his childood friend Jung Eum, as she’s gone from a campus beauty queen to a frizzy-haired assistant. Actor Go Joon Hee’s iconic ‘Jackson!’ originated form this drama.
